Group Therapy & School Holiday Programs
Throughout the year we offer a number of Group Programs either during the school term or through the school holidays. Group Therapy involves one or two therapists working with a select small group of clients. Groups are often designed to target specific areas such as anxiety, depression or behaviour problems. Other groups focus on improving social skills or helping clients cope with a range of challenges such as low-self esteem, emotional regulation, shyness or a recent loss.
The children within a group of similar ages and are often working towards similar goals. This ensures children can work together, find similarities with their peers and make friends all while developing important skills.
Group Therapy and School Holiday Programs may include:
- School Readiness
- Social Skills Groups
- School Speech & OT Programs
- Drama Group
- Making Friends Group
Groups are carefully created to match children based on their ages, goals, needs and areas of challenge.
Group therapy gives therapists an opportunity to see how kids relate to one another in a group setting. For children struggling with social anxiety, poor social skills or inattentiveness, a group setting offers the therapist a chance to help them work through their obstacles with others as they occur.
Children have a natural ability to express themselves through play. Groups for children involve various forms of play in the session. This may include spontaneous play or structured play activities such as role playing, drawing or board games.
Some benefits of group therapy include:
- Opportunity to develop relationships
- Group sessions mimic the real world
- Practice learning social skills and boundaries
- A chance to encourage friendship
- Positive peer influences
- Sensory and motor skills
