Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) support individuals of all ages to participate more fully in the everyday activities that are meaningful and necessary to them. This can include self-care tasks, leisure and play, school or work-based activities, and broader life skills such as social interaction, mobility, or community participation.
Paediatric Occupational Therapy
For children, Occupational Therapy focuses on building and strengthening foundation skills that support learning, development, and independence. These may include:
- Difficulty functioning within their school, home, social or recreational environments
- Difficulties colouring, cutting, holding cutlery
- Problems with dressing, toileting, brushing teeth or other daily tasks
- Messy or poorly constructed handwriting
- Difficulty with sitting at a desk or table, fidgeting or excessive movement
- Clumsiness, struggles to participate in playground games or sports
- Lack of motivation in managing their self-care, or doing their usual daily activities
- Behavioural difficulties or concerns in environments
Our therapists work with families, educators, and other supports to implement practical, individualised strategies that make a meaningful difference in daily life.
Adult Occupational Therapy
Our Occupational Therapy services also support adults in gaining, regaining, or maintaining the skills they need to live independently and meaningfully. Adult OT may assist with:
- Managing chronic illness or disability
- Rehabilitation after injury or surgery
- Maintaining or developing self-care and domestic skills (e.g., cooking, cleaning, hygiene)
- Assistance with transitioning to Supported Independent Living
- Improving workplace performance or returning to work
- Mental health, social skills and emotional wellbeing strategies
- Fatigue or pain management
- Cognitive strategies for memory, planning, and organisation
- Home safety, accessibility, and equipment prescription
We seek to understand each individual’s goals, challenges, and strengths. Our therapists assess how tasks, environments, and tools can be adapted to enhance independence, safety, and engagement in everyday life.
Assessments we offer:
- Functional capacity assessments
- Assistive Technology reports
- Equipment prescriptions
Occupational Therapy can assist with a wide variety of conditions including:
- Seek to discover each individual’s strengths, and what is making the doing challenging by looking, listening, suggesting, and exploring abilities.
- Support individuals to participate in a range of activities through teaching skills, changing the environment to better support engagement, looking at how objects are used or varying the way of doing things.
- Help in situations which matter to someone, such as learning to use scissors, learning to play, coping with changes, concentrating on a task, accessing the bathroom, cooking, catching the bus, gardening …. the list goes on depending on what people want and need to do at any time.
- Bring a range of therapeutic approaches to support their interventions recognising that one approach does not suit all, and at times one thing needs to be tried at a time.
- Support people by trialing and prescribing equipment like wheelchairs, beds, chairs, and changes to homes such as ramps and home modifications.
Whether working with children or adults, OTs take a holistic, person-centred approach. We:
- Collaborate with clients, families, and other professionals.
- Develop practical strategies tailored to real-life situations.
- Trial and prescribe equipment such as wheelchairs, chairs, assistive tools, or home modifications (e.g., ramps, rails).
- Support skill development in areas that matter to the person, from tying shoelaces to taking the bus, returning to work, or managing household routines.
We offer a variety of Occupational Therapy services to assist our client with reaching individualised goals. These services include clinic-based therapy, mobile therapy, group sessions and therapy assistant sessions.
